On Tuesday, during the observance of the second day of Shavuot, the Waterbury Police Department received information concerning a potential threat to the Waterbury Jewish community. It appears that the individual responsible for making the threat has been/is incarcerated. However, investigators are taking this seriously and conducting a full investigation.
JFED’s Regional Security Advisor, Michael Shanbrom, has been in contact with law enforcement and has requested an increased police presence in the community over the next couple of days in an abundance of caution. This is a good reminder for the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to 911. Waterbury is but one of the 29 communities JFED serves and supports.
Recommendations for the community:
Members of the community should increase their situational awareness; see something, say something.
Members should familiarize themselves with signs of terrorism-related suspicious activity and report any suspicious activities promptly by calling 911.
Jewish facilities should adhere to recommended security measures including strict facility access controls.
If confronted by an active threat, take immediate ACTION and Run/Hide/Fight.
Follow established protocols for reporting threats and incidents to law enforcement and security personnel.
Report any suspicious activity to local police and then notify Regional Security Advisor Michael Shanbrom at mshanbrom@securecommunitynetwork.org or by calling 844-SCN-DESK.
