The Grants and Allocations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut has recently announced its Local Grants and Allocations Awards for 2021-2022 fiscal year!

We are pleased to confirm that 14 nonprofit organizations, based in communities throughout Western and Northwestern Connecticut, have received awards. Following are the recipients of those awards, along with the specific purposes for which the awards are being provided;

Food Insecurity Services

Awards were granted to the following organizations that combat hunger in various Federation communities.

The mission of the grantee is to promote sustainable agriculture, local food and active healthy lifestyles!

 

The purpose of the grant funding is to provide locally grown food from NW CT farms to the Litchfield Hills Meals on Wheels (MOW) in order to make locally sourced fresh produce available to the senior population in NW CT while also supporting local farms. 

 

Litchfield, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide a Food Pantry. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is to enhance Friendly Hands Food Bank Inc.'s operating space & the efficiency of the space by transforming a shed into a temperature controlled storage area.

 

Torrington, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide a Food Pantry. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is to assist in Daily Bread Food Pantry's pandemic-related healthy food initiative that aims to insure visitors to the Pantry have access to more than just "survival" food!

 

Danbury, Connecticut

Housing Services

Awards were granted  to the following organizations that provide shelter and counseling services to people who are (or at risk of becoming) homeless.

The mission of the grantee is to work with social service agencies to identify people experiencing  homelessness who cannot afford to pay a monthly rent. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on providing security deposits directly to landlords to get people housed. 

 

Bethel, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide transitional housing.

 

The purpose of the grant funding is to plan activities to counter the proven, devastating health impact of isolation by encouraging regular social engagement & interaction for Renewal House residents & for program graduates living independently in the community. This includes group dinners, cookouts, book club & monthly deliveries of "games" -  monthly deliveries are also used as wellness checks.

 

Danbury, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide housing shelter. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is to assist on the purchase of a Traulsen Freezer to hold food donations. 

 

Danbury, Connecticut 

 

Medical Services

Awards were granted to the following organizations that provide medical support services.

The mission of the grantee is to provide Youth Behavior Health Services. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on providing access to quality behavioral health care for children, adolescents & their family.

 

Waterbury, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide cancer care medical services. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on Ann's Place Health Equity Initiative Program (HEI) The goal for their Health Equity Initiative (HEI) program is to ensure that everyone facing cancer, regardless of economic standing, has the opportunity to improve their quality of life. 

 

Danbury, Connecticut 

Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Support Services

Awards were granted to the following organizations that provide support to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

The mission of the grantee is to provide sexual assault/domestic violence support. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on creating safer communities. This project would be conducted via a series pf prevention & education workshops in local schools & community organizations to build safer communities in the towns that we serve.

 

Waterbury, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide sexual assault/domestic violence support. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on providing a sexual assault internship & awareness events on the Western Connecticut State University Campus! 

 

Danbury, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide services to victims of sexual assault/domestic violence crimes. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on funding for a 2-day workshop for Jane Doe No More Survivors Speak® Program. Six survivors of sexual crimes will be enrolled in the program at no cost to them. The survivors will work with professional speaking coaches and mentors to explore, document, and ultimately share their personal story in a safe, judgement-free, empowering enviorment. 

 

Naugatuck, Connecticut 

Youth Support Services

Awards were granted to the following organizations that provide educational enrichment and support services to underserved youth.

The mission of the grantee is to provide youth truancy prevention and counseling.

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on the Truancy Prevention & Counseling Program that provides the expertise, tools, & guidance to help youth cease truant behaviors & stay in school through graduation. 

 

Waterbury, Connecticut 

The mission of the grantee is to provide a youth enrichment program. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is to enable the economically disadvantaged children from the greater Woodbury area, especially the city of Waterbury to attend Flanders Summer Camp and new summer academies. 

 

Woodbury, Connecticut 

One of the missions of  Seven Angels Theatre is to provide a youth after school enrichment program. 

 

The purpose of the grant funding is focused on giving Waterbury elementary schools students, who cannot afford the cost of acting classes, the opportunity to participate in an after school acting program.  They learn that their voice, their body and their imagination are the fundamental tools that they use to act.
