The mission of the grantee 2023-2024 is to work with social service agencies to identify people experiencing homelessness who cannot afford to pay a monthly rent in Bethel, CT.
Off The Streets works with social service agencies to identify people experiencing homelessness who can afford to pay a monthly rent but who remain homeless due to lack of a security deposit. They pay security deposits directly to landlords to get people housed. Per email from Joe Simons : Off The Streets directs the landlord to give the security deposit back to the tenant so he can use it for the new apartment
The purpose of the grant funding is focused on providing security deposits directly to landlords to get people housed.
“Many people experiencing homelessness have sufficient income to pay rent but remain homeless because they lack a security deposit to get into an apartment.
We have found that it costs us on average $750 to house someone. This generous grant will allow us to transform the lives of four people by moving them to permanent housing.
In addition to security deposits we also provide furniture and household goods so people don't have to move into empty apartments.”
