Dear Mr. Robert Zwang
The Federation - Jewish Communities of Western CT, Inc.

I was honored and privileged to participate in the inspiring and moving visit of Governor
Quaddoura, Mayor Daniel Attar, and Deputy Mayor Ead Saleem. Their dialogue and example of
cooperation offers hope for peace and stability in the region.

All of Connecticut, indeed the nation, are indebted to the Federation for your vision,
conviction, and commitment in sponsoring this historic event.

As Governor Quaddoura stated, "no two people can live beside each other while one is
prospering and the other is not." This idea is central to work of Mayors Attar and Ead Saleem in
creating a joint industrial and educational zone. But even more important, it is critical to any
enduring peace and collaboration among peoples so diverse in religion and culture. Making
peace can be the ultimate act of courage -- as much so as making war. As Mayor Attar has
shown eloquently and powerfully, a war hero may also be a peacemaker -- a great theme of
Israel's history.

I was deeply impressed by the insightful and thoughtful account of gradual trust building
that they presented. Their message resonated strongly with the two audiences that I observed.
Their impact was tangible and real.

I am proud to have been part of this historic visit, and I hope that we will continue and
share in its success.

Many thanks, and warmest regards.
Sincerely
Richard BLUMENTHAL
