Jewish Cemetery Association
Accomplishes Mission
With the successful merger of the eight Jewish cemeteries in Waterbury and Morris, the Jewish Cemetery Association has accomplished its mission. But this is not a time rest on our laurels.
Thanks to the efforts of many, we are now able to serve the local Jewish community efficiently and with dignity. There is a comprehensive record of the interred based on the knowledge that was available at the time of the mergers. We are updating this information regularly.
We have made significant capital improvements to the facilities including: resurfaced the driveway in the Melchizedek Cemetery; installed a driveway and opened the fence in Hebrew Benefit Cemetery which now allows the hearse and family members inside the premises; resurfaced the walks in the Star Lodge and Workmen’s Circle Cemeteries; and moved the entry gate in the Beth El Cemetery to a better location.
These improvements, as well as those in the future, must be funded by the community. The sale of burial plots and the generosity of those responding to our annual appeal are our major sources of income. Also please remember the Jewish Cemetery Association as a recipient when composing an obituary.
In order to continue to upgrade and maintain the appearance of our cemeteries, your efforts as volunteers are necessary. Our help has dwindled and your assistance is imperative to continue this work. The time you give can be minimal, but the knowledge that you are performing an important community function is extremely gratifying.
For additional information regarding the operation of the Jewish Cemetery Association and information on volunteering, please contact Marcia Tishman, the Executive Director, at 203 910 2632.
