Accepting Summer Camp Registration

B’nai Israel’s Own Rachel Barclay Volunteers to be Camp Mom!

Although there is still snow on the ground, it is time to start making your child’s summer plans. The Federation; Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut’s Jewish Camping Program, Camp Charlotte is teaming with Camp Laurelwood in Madison CT to offer Jewish children the ideal introduction to sleep away camp. Camp Charlotte invites area children ages 7 and up to register for the week of Monday, August 9 – Sunday, August 15th. Camp Laurelwood (est. 1935) is the only co-educational Jewish camp in Connecticut. Be assured that all kids are kept very busy, safe and well cared for at camp. Licensed adult specialists teach and supervise boating, swimming, ropes course, nature, soccer, tennis, arts & crafts, dance, drama, archery, cycling, volleyball, and music. In addition, there is basketball, baseball, and field hockey. It is Jewish camp so every Friday evening and Saturday morning there are short, musical Shabbat services with skits.
The children’s bunk groups are supervised by two young adult counselors (sometimes more) 24 hours a day. Most of the counselors are former campers with a mix of returning Israeli and international staff members. There are two camp nurses and a psychologist living at camp all summer. The nurses keep stringent records of every child’s health, allergy and medication regiments. In addition, a physician pays daily visits to the infirmary.
The Camp Laurelwood food is kid-friendly, kosher and healthy with supplemental fruit and yogurt bar in the morning and vegetarian salad bars at lunch and dinner. Accommodations are made for food allergies and individual preferences.

Camp Charlotte @ Camp Laurelwood
tuition special for the week of August 9-15, 2010 is $500 per child with a $25 sibling discount.

Camp Laurelwood
is offering open houses and tours from 1-3 on the following Sundays, March 21, April 11 and May 2.

For the summer camp scoop, contact Rachel Barclay, Camp Mom, barclayrachel@sbcglobal.net.
Rachel Barclay will be living at camp, keeping an eye on your children and having fun the whole week!
